Sometimes it is very scary to see the condition in which some gliders come to us for major repairs.
Some planes have frame damage which are painted over, instead of being properly repaired. Electrical wiring was incorrectly changed, the weight and balance sheet is a fake, etc. Some planes are quite simply, "Flight Hazards"!
We are not saying that Technical aviation companies don't know what they are doing. There are of course many companies which really work with the greatest of care, however the repairs to a DG-808C or LS10-st surely can not be compared to repairs on a Cessna 152. It is natural that manufacturers know their own products better than anyone else.
The only way to guarantee that your plane remains in top flying condition, is to bring it in to us whenever possible, especially when major repairs are required!
Our service department can take care of all necessary repairs on our DG- and LS-gliders and on those from other companies. From a yearly check-up to major frame repairs, our service department will keep your plane it the best condition possible!!
We only ask that you call us for an appointment as early as possible, so that we can fit you in at a time which is most suitable to you!
DG Flugzeugbau service department is not only specialized to repair DG and LS sailplanes but all types and makes of sailplanes specifically those with auxiliary engines.
We are very flexible and capable to react immediately to emergency repairs as we are able to divert specialized staff from our production line to our service department. Therefore we can guarantee that our customers never have to wait for the repair of their plane any longer than absolutely necessary.
Our service department - the “CAMO” - was created 9 years ago and has grown very rapidly during this time due to their good performance.
I have to admit but certainly cannot change the fact that new sailplanes are expensive and not everyone can afford to buy a new one.
But at the same time well built sailplanes can almost last forever and because of this can be considered an investment. Who, for instance, bought a new plane 10 years ago, is richer today as another who invested in stocks 10 years ago in particular if these certificates were from Lehman Brothers. ![]()
Still, for many sailplane pilots a new plane is a dream which can never be realized and they are quite happy with their DG-300, LS4 or other glider, even though their plane might be 20 years old.
But some deterioration over the years has to be expected even in the best built fiberglass plane. So, why not consider to give your good old friend a complete overhaul, so that it will be like new again.
Why don't you speak to our service manager, Frank Goetze, if you wish more information on this.
And when you collect your plane after such an overhaul is done you will hardly
recognize it, it will be like new and it will last you at least for another 20 years.
According to EASA each Type Certificat Holder of a glider has to issue approved methods for mayor repairs. These are binding for all repair shops. They also can be valid for glider repairs in clubs.
It is understood that these approved methods also can contain a summarization of other sources like books, where everybody is able to find the methods in detail.
DG Flugzeugbau has issued such rules, they are approved by the EASA and they are now binding of all mayor repairs:
Approved Repair Methods for DG- and LS-Gliders
If you are responsible for such repairs, please take care to have these sources available.
