"aerokurier" is celebrating its 50th year in 2007. For the anniversary issue, which has just been published (end of July 2007), the magazine started a survey amongst its readers in April in order to find out how they judge the various aircraft manufacturers – the “brands” of our sector. Responses were to be sent to aerokurier, or handed in at the publisher’s stand at the trade fair AERO 2007. Over 1,000 readers took part in the survey.
In its August issue, aerokurier itself writes:
In the April issue of aerokurier, we asked you about your favourite makes in aviation. Many of you responded, and in this anniversary issue we present the winners of the reader survey “Best Brands of the Year 2007".For the big aerokurier reader survey “Best Brands of the Year 2007”, readers had a choice of 191 candidates in 13 categories. Each participant was given three votes per category. The idea of this “Best Brand” survey was not to assess a particular product or performance, but the image associated with a brand. In other words, not aircraft XY built by manufacturer Z, but the reputation individual manufacturers have among aerokurier readers was what counted.Among other things, the assessment reflected the experience readers had had with a brand over a longer period of time, and good marks also indicate that readers have a great deal of confidence in the brand in question, or at least so much confidence that they are always prepared to give it the benefit of the doubt. This explains results where a manufacturer comes top in a category purely on the basis of brand image, even though he is only testing an aircraft in the category concerned, without having gained type approval or delivered one to a customer. As a reward for their effort, all participating readers were entered into a draw offering twelve attractive prizes totalling 8,500 Euros. The winners have been notified, and their names are published in aerokurier issue 7/2007.
We feel very pleased and honoured that DG Flugzeugbau won this competition in the glider category. It did come as quite a surprise to us, as we are the smallest of “the big three” in our sector (although the gap to the other two is shrinking constantly). So, despite the fact that we clearly don’t have as many aircraft on the market as the others, we were still voted the best by aerokurier readers.
And what do we conclude from this?:
Well, Coca Cola is undoubtedly the best of the soft drinks, ![]()
and it would appear that, among glider manufacturers, it is
– we are clearly in good company then .....
The award ceremony took place in Tannheim on 21 July 07, at the "Tannkosh" event. Holger Back proudly accepted the prize on our behalf.

Congratulation to you all for the award.
I am no surprised.
I normally do not make statement of this nature but in past years I have been a keen observer on how your company evolved. I can comment only from what I have seen on your website, the News Letters you send to me, and also how you have handled any controversy that arose.
I have in that time period moved from my Homebuilt glider in 2002, to a ASW24 and just this Spring to an ASW27. I am pleased with my acquisition and maybe in the future, as my equity builds up I will be able to afford a DG product.
